El Bizcocho, San Rafael: river pools, camping and the yellow bridge
The Bizcocho river gives its name to a rural area and a stretch of the road from Guatapé, about five kilometers before town. It is the favorite spot for camping right next to the river.
What is in El Bizcocho
Vivelapp describes Camping El Bizcocho about 5 km before San Rafael, on the Guatapé riverbank, with a camping area, restaurant, direct river access, parking and some rooms. In April 2025 the same outlet cited 30,000 pesos to camp and 8,000 for entry; treat that as a reference, not a current rate.
The area also has El Suribio, a nature reserve with trails, birds, pools and some lodging. And on the road running alongside the Bizcocho river, 500 meters from the bridge, the Booking.com listing of Estación Paraíso de Dantas offers a house with river views.
The yellow Río de Oro bridge
The directions from Eco Hotel Río de Oro say to turn off at a yellow bridge marked with its name, in the Bizcocho sector, five kilometers before town. If you are heading to that hotel, it is the same exit.
Tips
- The Guatapé river is so clear in places that swim goggles are worth bringing.
- Bring repellent: at dusk by the river there are mosquitoes.
- If you camp, ask about the river level and pitch your tent away from the bank.
More pools on the Guatapé road in La Oscura. If you want a roof but still nature, see glamping and ecolodges. The other pools are in San Rafael river pools.
